The search form will let you add children. It may let you filter for family rooms, suites, or “two queen beds.” None of that is the same as a connecting door, a crib in the room at 4 p.m., or a rollaway that actually arrives. Family Trip defaults to Travelocity for the search. This page is about not lying to yourself with the filters.
We are not Travelocity. We will not skin a fake booking engine. We will not publish a property’s rollaway fee. Fees change. The hotel’s own policy page and a phone call (or a message through the booking) are the sources. Gary Thomas is not the front desk.
What the OTA is good at
- Named hotels in a US city or gateway town, with a map pin you must zoom.
- A rate and a cancellation sentence — if you read them.
- Occupancy listed as adults and children. That occupancy is a policy, not a floor plan.
- Packages that attach a flight. Different contract. See the package-vs-split guide.
What looks like a family feature and is not a guarantee
Connecting rooms: two rooms with an interior door. Hotels sell them when they have them. OTAs sometimes offer a “request connecting” note. A request can fail on arrival. If the trip only works with a connecting door, you need the hotel to confirm, in writing if you can get it, and you need a backup (adjoining, same floor, a suite). Do not prepaid a mystery layout.
Rollaways and cribs: inventory in a closet, not a filter. Some brands include a crib. Some charge. Some have none on a sold-out Saturday. If a toddler’s sleep is the week, ask the property. If they cannot answer, pick a room type whose bed count does not depend on a rollaway.
Suites and “sleeps 6”: a sofa bed is not a bedroom. Count real beds and who will actually sleep. A family of five in a “sleeps 6” with one king and a pullout is a different night from two queens. We will not rate sofa beds. You already know how your children sleep.
How to search Travelocity without over-clicking
Enter the town you meant — not the metro blob. Enter ages if the form asks; occupancy rules sometimes care. Sort less. Open three named hotels whose pins are in the neighborhood you will walk. Read bed type and cancellation. Ignore “family friendly” as a badge; it is not a regulated term on this site and we will not treat it as one.
Then, before you pay, send the request: connecting, crib, rollaway, ground floor, bathtub. If the trip is prepaid opaque (more common on Priceline Express Deals than as Travelocity’s identity), you may not know the building in time to ask. That is why opaque is a weak family default. Book the Stay documents that path; we do not recommend it as the first family tool.
When Hotels.com or Expedia should win the room
If you already have a Hotels.com / Expedia Group account and you want a named cancellable room, use it — especially for a first park gateway. Park Stay is that lander. If you already live in Expedia, Trip Bundle is the package lander. Travelocity is the default here because this page is the dedicated Travelocity lander, not because the other siblings cannot show two queens.
Rewards names have changed. We do not print an earn rate. A free night does not create a connecting door.
Arrival is still a hotel conversation
If the connecting door did not happen, you talk to the front desk, then to the merchant if the listing promised something it should not have. 4 Life Health Wealth LLC cannot re-room you. We can correct this guide if a public policy we cited moved — email gary@4lifehealthwealth.com with a URL.
